Before selecting a bathroom faucet, you will need to know some information. If you are simply replacing a faucet and maintaining the sink, one of your decisions is already made. But, if you are replacing both the sink and the faucet, you will first need to decide which one is the most important to you, the bathroom sink or faucet.
Let me step back and explain. Bathroom faucets are available in single holes, centerpieces, and general assemblies. If you keep your existing sink, you need to match your faucet to fit the sink you already have, so you can make fewer decisions. However, if you are starting over and replacing both the bathroom faucet and the sink, the sky is the limit, but you must decide if the appearance and function of the faucet exceed your choice in the sinks.

Faucet mechanics in the bathroom.
It is good to know some of the internal activities of the bathroom faucets before starting the selection.
* Compression faucets use washers and compression to stop the flow of water. These faucets have been around for a long time, most of us have used them and they are still available and generally among the least expensive models. Compression faucets have a hot and cold handle to control water pressure and temperature and require tightening the handles to shut off the water flow. Inside the handles is a group with a washer at the end of a screw. When you squeeze the handle on the bathroom faucet, pressure builds in the washer above an opening and the flow of water stops. These faucets have a long history of periodic maintenance needs, generally replacing washers.
* Ball faucets that are common in both the kitchen and bathroom have a single handle to control the flow of water and also the temperature. This type of faucet was the first to be washable. Unfortunately this is a complicated mechanism and it is also the most loss prone.
* Cartridge faucets may be the best bathroom choice for those who prefer separate handles for hot and cold water and want fewer maintenance issues, although they are also available in a single handle version. Unlike compression faucets, cartridge faucets do not require additional pressure to stop the flow of water. They have a mobile stem cartridge that controls the flow of water. They are more reliable than compression faucets and require less frequent repairs.
* The faucets have a single lever that controls the flow of water and temperature. Disk wrenches are the newest type of wrench, rarely require repair, and are of superior quality.

Bathroom Faucet Installation Style
* Center faucets have all faucet components mounted on a base. Both the spout and handles are mounted on a base, so the entire bathroom faucet assembly is one unit.
* Generalized faucets feature all components individually. Handles and pipes are separate pieces that generally fit the sink and are available in different drilling options.
* Single hole faucets are another option on a bathroom faucet. This unit is just what it says. It requires a single hole and the spout and a lever to control the water flow and temperature are presented as a single unit.
* Wall Mounted Faucets This is a complete topic in itself, but I only mention it here in case you have your heart set on a boat sink and this type of faucet set.
Wall mounted bathroom faucets are an option only if you are remodeling or willing to open the wall. This is a more complicated option and should be carefully checked before getting involved.
